Hi all

Post by mint32 » Fri Dec 22, 2017 4:20 am

Hi there,
I've just started using Mint but am finding it very good, much better than most Linux distros I've tried before.
For years I've been running Win 7 and VMs with XP inside them - a combination I'm still using on Mint.
Although I don't worry about security on my computers it make quite a change to find how secure Mint is after the gaping holes in Windows and the constant updates needed to keep it safe (LOL!)
Personally I locked my computer down years ago and have never bothered with those updates - and I have never been hacked or phished etc.
Any way good to be here and to finally find an OS I can get to grips with.

Welcome aboard, mint32! Yes, Linux is more secure than Windows, but it is still recommended to keep it up to date. I know Windows updates can take forever, and can screw up your system, but in Linux, updates go quickly and it is rare to have an update cause any problems.

Thanks very much for all those kind greetings and i look forward to making a contribution to these forums.
I will be keeping Linux up to date as I need to but the protocols I use make certain that nothing can get onto my computers and cause me problems.
And of course the use of VMs help to isolate any problems even more.
The one thing I am delighted with Mint is the fact that I have had no problems at all with any hardware - so different to Windows!
