Greetings from yet another old Newbie -
I’ve just installed Mint 18.3 on two of my old systems and have both enjoyed and have been frustrated with the experience. One system is a HP Pavilion a1542n, now 12 years old, on which I’ve installed Mint as a dual boot system with Win.XP. Relatively easy! The other is an HP laptop dv6645; this originally had a Vista OS which died beyond recovery. I installed Mint on this with considerable difficulty, mainly video and WiFi issues. Both systems now working, more or less, but can at least exchange files with my new Win.10 based system. I've very little software experience, so no doubt I'll be asking for much help!

Linux is indeed fantastic for adding life to older hardware. My 10 year old laptop runs like a charm with it. I think the last time it ran Windows was the XP days....
