I have been interested in linux mint for about a decade. But everytime I tried it in the past something wouldn't work. Usually sound but occasionally graphics drivers. I would mess with the live USB for a while and give up since Im not a very patient individual.
I have been playing with mint 18.3 with cinnamon for a few weeks on a couple of my machines and it doesn't have those flaws anymore. Currently running a dual boot with windows 7 and hope to figure out how to run everything i want on mint so i can ditch 7.

Hey - - welcome to our Forum
you will surely get to some point, where the Linux System & your Hardware can co-operate nicely.
- we have all been there & had those same issues. . .
but, later on, when you've a tad more expertise, then you will also find how to solve the easier Hardware issues.
& so, even later on, you will get less frustrated with your new endeavorers.
