hello

Post by bennet » Sat May 12, 2018 12:41 pm

Hello ,I am 56 years old and I have just purchased my first ever laptop, guessing that makes me a true newbie :) Probably the newest newbie there has ever been in all of history :D I have never even had to use a laptop for work so Windows was also a complete mystery to me, most of my computing has been on various smartphones of the Android variety, on those I am very comfortable.
I wasnt very impressed with W10 ,and the privacy concerns using that are frankly just as bad as anything Google has tried , so purely on those issues I thought I would venture into the Linux world, so here I am in the wonderful world of Mint .I tried Mint within 3 days of getting this machine by using a free disc from a magazine, actually felt quite pleased with myself changing boot order and such since it was all completely new to me, not completely clueless :)
I think I will be a good test of the user friendliness of Mint, I am now typing this very slowly on a machine running mint 18.3 CInnamon, which wasnt too difficult to install though I was certainly keeping everything crossed while it progressed.
Its mostly running ok as far as I can tell except for an issue with the new software manager which doesnt seem to open at, all ,,something I know I wont be able to sort out on my own so I will be making a post at some point in the newbie section.
Sorry if this is a bit untidy and error ridden, first time on a full size keyboard,
