New To The Cult
Windows versus Apple.
It's like democrats v republicans. Black v White. Muslims v Christians. Protestants v Catholics. Northerners v Southerners. Man v Woman. Pepsi v Coke. Beatles v Elvis.
Glad to be a part of something that most people say "What is Linux? Is that for Windows or Mac?" The Linux slogan should be "Think even more different."
Linux is free, safe, versatile. Been looking into Linux for 8 years now, and finally did it! It feels like I joined some strange, but positive cult.
Thank you for reading!
Edit: I have been on a lot of crazy adventures around the world. And I am old.

If it is a cult , it is the best cult of all.

Do Take the Time to Read the LinuxMint Users Guide that came with the installation.
EDIT: we have an old Geezer on this Forum, do watch out for him,
or, he may even introduce himself . . .

Welcome aboard, all_spice! I think you just left the cult for the sane world.

There used to be people who would "extract" people from weird cults, they haven't succeeded........yet. Welcome to the "dark side"

Thank you all.
The Linux Terminal reminds me of Unix in my youth. Of course, when I was really young, the closest thing we had to computers were pocket calculators. Kraftwerk did a song about it. So hi-tech then! ha ha.
Is it the Dark Side, because there are no Windows?
Re: New To The Cult
it's that your world is *not* illuminated by windows . . .

Welcome all_spice!

I am also autistic. So don't mind me if I type very plain or inappropriate at times. I talk like that IRL and do not mean anything my it. I do not imply things. I have somehow managed to marry. Twice. Ha ha. This time I have a truckload of kids who will likely be raised on Linux. Sounds like a good mix! Thank you for reading!

Welcome aboard!
Compared to me, you're probably a spring chicken, junior

Well, you do look old in your pic. I'm a half a century old. Which puts me about twice the age of most people I encounter online. Not that it matters much. But these youngsters learn computers in schools these days, have them at home, and shoot, my kids know how to use their tablets more than I do!
Greetings and thanks for stopping in.
Re: New To The Cult
No cult, just a bunch of enthusiasts.

Welcome to the rebellion against the evil cult that has taken over known as windows
To me opposite of whats been said in this thread. I think of Windows as an OS that has overshadowed and brainwashed people into following them.
Possibly to fact of how some Windows users just go insanely angry and ignorant in statements they state if anyone brings up Linux.
If you ever feel really stuck don't ever hesitate to ask me for help =). (Course Mint I find has excellent forum help =).)

Re: New To The Cult
Really?
Well then all honours and respects to you. To be honest, at the rate I am going, I don't think I could handle the internet at 85. I can't even remember what I had for lunch most days. And I eat the same thing every day. Ha ha.
Re: New To The Cult
Yes indeed. Linux is like rebelling against the system without having to throw your computer in the dumpster and live in a hut.silvatech wrote: ⤴Thu May 24, 2018 7:49 pm Welcome to the rebellion against the evil cult that has taken over known as windows

Having a few rough patches, but it took me years to really get everything figured out and to work on Windows right. And then it still needed a fresh install 1-2 times a year for whatever reason it started to die.
Glad to be here, thank you!
Re: New To The Cult
Impossible... that would mean I'm old too, and that can't possibly be true!
Welcome, sounds to me like you'll fit right in here.

WARNING - Sexist remark....
I've heard that you are as only as old as the woman you feel......(of course, I am referring to your wife, here)
I've already said welcome, but, it bears repeating. And, no, I am not as bad as my attempt at levity might suggest. Well, not really.
