Switching to Linux

Post by lef »

Hello everyone,

A short introduction; I am Lef, 49, female, and in the process of switching from windows 10 to Linux mint mate 18.3 (still have one laptop on win 10).
I am not totally unfamiliar with Linux, and I did some attempts in the past. But (out of principle) I really want to get away from Microsoft and google for good.
I do know quite a bit about computers and love to take laptops apart, as in repair ,
but my Linux problem solving knowledge and terminal know how is as good as zero.
So, that being said, I think I am going to need you, community, to make my switch a success.

Lef
Distro: Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia 64-bit
Kernel: Linux 4.13.0-41-generic x86_64 (Ubuntu 5.4.0-6ubuntu1~16.04.9)
Desktop: MATE 1.18.0
Lenovo X230 - Intel® Core™ i5-3230M CPU @ 2.60GHz × 4
Memory: 11,4 GiB

You'll be supporting others before you know it :)

This early in the morning, and already learned a new word...feline. Thank you lsemmens. The avatar is a huge drawing made with Krita, hanging above the fireplace, named, "the ladies of the house"

Thank you all, for the warm welcome on the forum.

Welcome aboard, Lef! I'm with catweazel: I bet you will be helping others out in no time. But, in the meantime, if you have any troubles, just ask for help. That's what the forums are for, and people here are always happy to help others.
