That all changed when Windows 7 was nearing it’s useful life (OK, that’s an over-statement) and Win 8 was on the horizon. Microsoft was really getting into the “You really think you actually own your computer? Silly boy, computers belong to Microsoft!”
So I distro hopped amongst all the usual suspects; I even tried Arch (was not my best decision - I just wasn't up to the task). I tried LM and it was solid and I used it for a while (see my forum join date), but it had one problem; processing photographs was taking way too long (at the time I was a professional wedding photographer and needed to be able to process, literally, thousands of photographs in a batch). I found a Debian derivative (SolydXK) that was able to use the same software (Darktable) and process photographs in about 20% less time.
Times change and so did my focus in photography (seriously, no pun intended). Due to their philosophy about stability and the time it takes them to bring new technology to market, the Debian derivatives didn’t have all the firmware I needed for some newer hardware. I started looking at alternatives. Re-discovered Linux Mint when I built a desktop computer from salvaged parts

So, now I’m in the process of moving all my computers (except the one belonging to my dear wife) to LM MATE 19 “Tara” and finding it to be absolutely wonderful!
Don’t know what I can contribute on the forum, but I’ll try not to make too much of a fool of myself! I was actually quite pleased with myself when I figured out what was causing a flooding of my
/var/log/kern.logfile and was actually able to fix it.
