Bill from AUstralia

Post by bill_steamshovel »

Hello,

Just spent a character building day trying to install Mint 19 Cinnamon onto a small laptop bought from Aldi last year.

I live in Rural Victoria, Australia.

Did some 3d geological modelling on SIlicon Graphics workstations approx 20 years ago and thats my Unix experience , in other words a newb who has finally put his toe in the water to find out a bit more about non windows environment. Kind of got the irrits with windows 10 and its never ending updates - we live in a very slow internet area and the updates take forever and have twice crashed my desktop.

Keen to get something working on this laptop and get an idea of whether or not we can use Linux in the future. We are both retired so have got lotsa time to investigate and get it working.

Bill

Do Take the Time to Read the LinuxMint Users Guide that came with the installation.

can you type this into Terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
and then copy the result, back here, but on your other Post, about your Aldi Machine ?.

I'd bet money that you can. On most systems, it just works. You may have problems with a particular system, but the gurus here will most likely get you fixed up quickly. I have done Linux installs for family and friends and might get one or two support calls, like when my brother missed a step when installing a printer driver.
