Linux newbie here, but many, many years experience with Windows and Mac. I've kept an eye on Linux over the years, and watched it grow from the equivalent of building your own airplane from raw stock to simply choosing which model you want delivered fully configured and ready to fly. And finally got fed up enough with M$ to take the plunge myself.
I'm running Linux Mint 18.3 with the Cinnamon desktop, and it has been a blast. All the vital stuff worked right out of the box, and I've had a grand time figuring out the customizations that I wanted. LIke configuring all the buttons on my Logitech mouse with xbindkeys, setting up my standard keyboard shortcuts with a combination of the built-in keyboard shortcuts and Autokey (and learning a lot about bash scripting in the process), and figuring out how to use crontab to schedule my backups with FreeFileSync (with some help from the fine folks here).
