Hello from another new Mint user

Post by John_Elder »

Hello Everyone,

Another new Mint user here in the USA. I have been a PC user since the old DOS days. Used Windows at home and work for many years. Finally had enough with Win10 forced updates, especially the October surprise file deletions - didn't affect me, but took that as a warning shot across my bow.

I've been tinkering with Linux versions over the years, but never made the commitment to use as my primary OS until recently. Read Mint reviews and watched videos for a while and decided to switch. It was a major move for me, since my primary computer must be reliable and stable without question.

I've got Mint 19 installed (not a dual boot, just Mint) on a Lenovo ThinkCentre M900 with an Intel I5-6600T, 8gigs of ram, a Samsung 860 Evo SSD and an old 840 Evo external on USB3. That 840 had Windows 7 on it, the last good Windows OS, in my opinion.

I've done most of the system and ssd optimizations recommended on the Easy Linux Tips Project site. Have been running Mint for a few days now and everything is going very well. Most work I had to do was move Quicken data into GnuCash. Took some time to set that up, but I think I like GnuCash better.

Anyway, will be posting some questions in the appropriate (I hope) forums.

These forums look very friendly. Looking forward to being part of the group.
