Hello From Panama

Post by smyers » Thu Jan 31, 2019 1:00 pm

Hello all, I want to intro myself. I, too, am a immigrant from Win 10. I moved to Linux. I started out with 17.??. When I went back to the US for a visit, I found a Disk that put me up to Linux 18.3. I am a "user" (as I was in Win 10). Just "used" the operating system to do what I wanted to do on the net and playing around.
In trying to figure out (I still haven't but that is for another forum!) how to get a 2nd HD added to my system, I must have shorted out something and I "blew up" my MB! I was running a ASUS Z97-E/USB 3.1. I went to New Egg and they no longer carried it! They offered to sell me a Z97M-Pluse in it's place. I ordered it and had it shipped to a friends house in Tampa. After several months, she hand carried it to me here in Panama (Oh the trials and tribulations of living in a foreign country!).
Since then I have changed out the MB and now I am a happy camper! My hat is off to Linux to letting me change out my MB (and not even to the same replacement model!) and not making me reinstall Linux. I reused my CPU (i5-4590 (3.3 GHZ) 6MB Cache LGA1150) and my RAM.

I am also a radio Ham (call HP9SAM) and I am getting into the "digital" modes, so I will be asking for help on that (in the future). That is (in a nutshell) my story and I am sticking to it!

Best wishes,
Steve

Welcome back to Linux Mint Steve!
Linux is very nice to use in multiple resurrected laptops. Over 200 and counting. Even burning LM cinnamon into HDD in and transplanting it into a Macbook 2.0. Works great and is faster than a Macbook with Apple OSX with none of the hassle of trying to do updates and paying for them then having them crash out the system.

M-I-L lives in Chitre and I go grocery shopping in Las Tablas. I am the only Gringo in Pocri. Lots of cows and corn around here. I had dinner in Pedasi (the surfer hangout).
