Old Geezer Mint newbie

Post by Martinp » Sun Feb 03, 2019 8:55 pm

Hi, retired Graphic Designer and have always used Macs, but as a result of Apple OS revisions, my machine has become obsolete, so decided to change the OS, and to be honest I did try Torus, but found Mint to be more comfortable, if that makes sense. I initially intended to run Mint on the Mac but decided to try it on an Acer Aspire 5749 laptop, very impressed so far.. steep learning curve but I’ve got plenty of time

Hi Martinp, I'm guessing one of the biggest parts of your learning curve is going to be all the extra Buttons on the mouse. No, Seriously, welcome to the world of Mint.
Kernel: 4.15.0-46-generic x86_64 bits
Desktop: Cinnamon 3.8.9
Distro: Linux Mint 19 Tara

Laptop HP-ProBook-470-G2 8Gb RAM SSD
Server AMD Phenom 9650 - GEForce 9400GT 6Gb RAM
+ three other Mint machines
Out of my mind - please leave a message

Hi lsemmens, lol... it is, but getting there, actually, I’ve enjoyed my little foray into the world of Linux via Lime, I’ve genuinely been impressed, and to be honest, why Windows whatever version has lasted so long beggars belief. True, I’ve spent most of my working life on Macs, but have used Windows along with Unix (Sun Workstations) as some point, but never as comfortable as I do using Lime... it’s early days, I know... but so far so good.

But thanks for the war welcome...

Thanks for the Warm welcome, already downloaded the guide and looking forward to working my way through it.... for a Mac user creating dual boot partitions in Windows is a little daunting, using Linux to its full potential seems a long way off... still as I’ve said, I’ve got time...

Yes Martinp, Welcome to Linux Mint.
BTW LM installs and runs very nicely in both Mac's and iMac's even without Windex or Applesauce.
