My first week on Linux!

Post by Mojoneko » Mon Feb 04, 2019 3:02 am

Hi everyone. I have been threatening to try out Linux for years now and finally did it a few days ago. With the demise of Win7 less than a year away I wanted an option to Windows 10. I have only been using Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon for 3 days now but so far I am very impressed. I am using my Linux PC to post this. :) I was initially just going to dual boot my old Win7 gaming PC but after watching several videos I decided to build a separate computer from the spare parts I had left over from a recent upgrade of my other PC.

I'm glad now I went that route. I have been pleasantly surprised at how user friendly this version of Linux is to use and how simple it was to install and get a clean functional OS with no errors (at least for me) on the first attempt. Thank You Linux community for creating such a great OS. So far my first impressions are its a very viable alternative to Windows. I am still exploring and figuring out how Linux does things and I'm enjoying the heck out of doing it. I imagine I will be spending a lot of time here in the forums while I learn how to use Linux, I will do my best not to be a pest in the process. So once again Linux community thanks for doing this, I promise to make a contribution to the cause!

Welcome to the world of Linux, Mojoneko. You'll get to meet quite a few windwoes refugees here. Mint is certainly a better Windows than the Micro$ alternative.
Kernel: 4.15.0-46-generic x86_64 bits
Desktop: Cinnamon 3.8.9
Distro: Linux Mint 19 Tara

Laptop HP-ProBook-470-G2 8Gb RAM SSD
Server AMD Phenom 9650 - GEForce 9400GT 6Gb RAM
+ three other Mint machines
Out of my mind - please leave a message

Welcome aboard, Mojoneko! Don't worry about being a pest, the forums are here to help people. I found Linux to be a very viable alternative to Windwoes back in 2002 when I first tried it. No more Windwoes for me!

Thank you for the response's and kind words of encouragement! I had heard the Linux community was one of the best and every post I've read has justified that reputation. So far my only regret with Linux is I didn't try it out sooner! Thanks! :D
