Seattle salutations!
Seattle salutations!
Hello all. Finally got around to dedicating an older unit (HP Pavilion DV6) to Linux. I went with the Cinnamon edition and for a newb, I found the install process fairly easy going and I really like the end result. I'm looking forward to learning the new OS. Card reader was recognized and installing several other programs ended well (after hitting a couple of learning walls). Only thing left right now is getting the camera and fingerprint reader to work if that's possible.

Hi paparick,
Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and its excellent forum!
The webcam can be used with various webcam software if it is recognized by the Linux system. I recommend "guvcview".

As for the fingerprint scanner, search for finger in the "Synaptic Package Manager (SPM)" and see what is there.

It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run "inxi -Fxzd" and "lsusb" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.paparick wrote:Only thing left right now is getting the camera and fingerprint reader to work if that's possible.
