Finally made it across

Post by SausageCreature » Sat Aug 31, 2019 3:31 am

Having worked with Unix on and off throughout my career, I first tried Redhat back in about 2002, and ended up with a bust HDD, mainly due to having to specify start and end blocks (or was it sectors?) on the HDD I wanted to install on to, and for each partition...Unnecessarily difficult I thought. The HDD was subsequently unrecognisable to any BIOS :) Oh dear. "Unix and Linux chooses it's friends carefully", to quote a friend of mine.

Years later Win10 arrived on a laptop and that was the end for me. Mint has been so simple and has rekindled an old interest in all things GNU and Linux. Thoroughly enjoying it. I'm sure there will be hair pulling moments to come, but for now I am still enjoying the endorphin kick every time I realise I am out of the clutches of Microsoft. That said, my desktop still runs Win for Media Centre to record my tv season passes.

I'm working through this series of youtube videos to refresh myself.

I've turned into a bit of an evangelist now, and am telling a lot of people about Mint.

So, the laptop is just a day to day, email, browsing etc. But I have also started to use VIrtual Box and Unbuntu to follow the courses above.

Hoping to find a hobby in all of this, and contribute as and when possible.
