Hello from the Midwest

Post by digitalsoldier71 » Mon Sep 09, 2019 2:35 pm

I am Marlon from Missouri (St. Louis to be exact) and I am in completely new territory. I have spent the last two decades with Windows and looking to make a change. I have a day to day Win 10 machine that i use for schoolwork, video editing and other tasks. I have a dedicated gaming desktop i recently built (6 months ago) that i have Windows 10 and Linux Mint 19. and one Windows 10 Laptop.

Why Linux? I am just tired of Windows. I am tired of the constant updates, the constant resource hog, the constant battle against viruses and the like. I guess you can say that i am tired of the market domination of Windows and the high price of its software products. If i had one word to describe what i am looking for in Linux? It would be Liberty.

some help with windows 10. To stop those constant updates, find the area to set it as "limited bandwidth" and ONLY use wifi for connection to your router. Soon as you connect to a LAN port, the "limited bandwidth" changes back. It's a setting for those who use satellite connections, to avoid them using up their monthly bandwidth allowance. Also turn off the "sharing updates" function too.
All things go better with Mint. Mint julep, mint jelly, mint gum, candy mints, pillow mints, peppermint, chocolate mints, spearmint,....

Welcome to the forum. Like you, I am looking for an alternative to the Windows world. If I had a simple hint to pass along, it's be sure to post questions in the appropriate forum. Otherwise, the general attitude is that people will be patient with you, for which I'm most thankful.
