Hi everyone and Looking forward to ask many questions

Post by Gate_Crasher321 » Sun Sep 29, 2019 10:08 am

I wanted to say hi to everyone and I am looking forward to all your help in learning mint and making it my main OS.
I currently have:

Lenovo T430 with NVS5400m dGPU

I am hoping when I install mint that everything will work out of the box and my dGPU would be recognized so I can use it.

Thank you very very much.

Please let me know if you have any advice on watching a youtube video or guide to install Mint on my laptop.

I have two SSDs on my laptop, with the first one having windows 10 and the second one being empty.

Lenovo T430 with NVS5400m dGPU
Welcome, you will find that thinkpads are very linux friendly and should install 'out of the box'. There are a lot of members on the forum with thinkpads. I've got three T430, but none with the separate GPU.

Where have you got the second SSD, assume one is in the main slot and the other either an mSATA drive in the pcie slot underneath or in a caddy in the ultrabay? I've got one T430 with a 240GB SSD in the main drive slot and a 120GB SSD in the mSATA slot. It has win10 and lubuntu on the main SSD and mint on the mSATA SSD.

Do you know if win10 was installed in legacy mode or UEFI (most probably legacy)?

Note - the main slot and the ultrabay are SATA3, the mSATA slot is SATA2 so slower (not that you'd really notice with an SSD).
