Hello from Norway

Post by johsmic » Tue Oct 08, 2019 2:12 pm

After a year of frustrating distro-hopping, I'm back to Mint, and I feel confident that this is where I belong :)
19.2 xfce feels rock solid on my T480. I have tried xfce on several other distros, but Mints version is IMO the best! The only thing I miss is xfce 4.14.
I use Mint for node/react/python development and almost everything else. Only Adobe sometimes forces me over to my Windows-partition. I think its unfair that Mint often only is credited for being beginner friendly. Yes it is, but Mint is also great for non-beginners who want a distro where you can concentrate on getting things done, in an comfortable environment, without hassle.

Hello johsmic,
Welcome back to the best :) And welcome to Linux Mint Forums.
I also have a T480 and it works great with xfce.
You can install 4.14 (I have not done this) It's a xubuntu PPA but if you do it may not reflect Mint's mods or themes. PPA is found on the link listed here:

Good Luck and enjoy!

Thank you for nice replies :)
About 4.14: I dont think I dare to include "shady" testing-repositories to my installation. Its running so smooth now, and I had some bad experiences with Debian Testing, Manjaro and OpenSUSE Tumbleweed  I guess my experimenting-days are over...

And, of course: A big thanks to Clem and all the other Mint-contributors for their great work! You make my day!
