Testing the water with Linux

Post by bas_ackward »

I have just installed Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon yesterday on a second hand computer (originally Win 7) My main computer is Windows 10. I have dabbled a bit with Linux in the past and went as far as installing it with dual boot with Windows 7. That was quite a while ago, but I only played around with it for a short while. Had trouble getting it to connect to the network, but was too lazy to try to fix it. With support for Win 7 going away, I decided to take the plunge and load Linux as the sole OS (no dual boot).

I took the time to view several youtube videos about Linux and decided to go with Mint/Cinnamon, despite one or two videos criticizing it, but not for any technical issues. Instead, it was about it being too much like windows. That actually is a selling point for me, as I'd guess it is for many others. They did however compliment it for the friendliness of the Mint community. That was also a selling point. I have not done anything with my Win 10 computer yet because I'm still testing out whether I'd be willing to go all Linux, or prefer to stay with Win 10.

The main reason I'm keeping the Win 10 computer is because I play World of Warcraft. I'll be looking into Wine and other tools for dealing with that. If I find a workable solution, I may go all the way to Linux. On the other hand, I may lose interest in that game. Only time will tell. I don't really play any other games. Everything else I can do on Linux I believe.
