Hello just another Win7 refugee..

Post by surfsup1955 »

Hey, Alex here, ran out of Win7 support on a perfectly good Samsung laptop - so I decided to go with Linux Mint Cinnamon. I’m sure there are more of us on the way - lots actually. Mint seems to work well on the Samsung, faster, better battery life, etc. A few little quirks I’ll have to live with will be the keyboard Fn (function keys) - not all of them do what they’re supposed to. Also some of the “useful” Samsung utilities are gone. But overall I’m a happy camper and looking fwd to learning more. Thx to all who have developed and made Mint such a nice product!

Welcome to the forum Alex!

Wow, Linux Mint seems to be picking up lots of Windows 7 refugees! :D

Definitely. In fact my wife’s perfectly good Win7 Gateway PC is next. But she‘s smarter than me - she’s watching how my install goes, lol!

Thx!

Hi Alex. Welcome to Mint. As you suggested there has been an increase in new members who have left Windows, or are now experimenting with Mint due to the end of support for Win 7. Glad to have you aboard.

Welcome! To resurrect a few of the little special functions in the Samsung keyboard, checkout some of the functions in the "Software Manager" and some searches in the Forums. They may have different names but LInux is probably where Windex found them.

Hey Pierre, thank you. I’m not sure what happened but my post (this one) seems to have duplicated itself? I know I didn’t post it twice so assume it’s a forum glitch?
