Game Developer building Linux Games

Post by The Grey Wizard »

Hey folks. My name is Jordan Heaton and I am the lead programmer, founder and designer for Skjöld Game Studio. We're working on a game for Windows, Linux, Mac and Switch. Anyhow, I just installed Mint to play test our Linux builds and I'm really loving it so far. I used Ubuntu all through college and it was okay, but I eventually went back to Windows (like a wimp) as a game developer because most games are made for Windows and I could finally afford a PC with an operating system pre loaded!

Mint is pretty sweet aesthetically and operationally. I haven't downloaded an IDE yet, but I'd like to use it more and more. Using Mint is like coming back to an old friend's house, but finding out they've won the lottery since the last time you spoke.

On a side note, a friend and I are beginning to work on LinuxFromScratch with the long term intentions of building a distro geared specifically towards game developers.

Hi Jordan and welcome! It's great to see the efforts being put in to Linux gaming these days. Never heard of Switch though.

All the best!
