Buh bye Windows

Post by kelevra »

Hello, it"s time to finally ditch the Windows issue. I have used/owned every version, yes even ME and Vista. I have been using the internet since it was free and command line based. I have tried many versions of Linux in the past and always found them kind of clunky and hard to use just one version to complete my computing needs. I recently decided that I had had enough of Windows updates/crap/recommended specs. I am on a fixed income and am unable to play the update game to keep up with Gates.
I am now using Mint 19.3 and am very happy with the experience. Mint does every thing I need, and more, and I will be recommending Mint to others.
I look forward to learning more about this fabulous system.

Welcome to the forum.

Like you, I have been with computers since before the Internet existed, started with the Tandy keyboard that used the 300 baud audio tape for backups.

suffered thru all of the different versions of M$ products, and like you, limited income, hate replacing the PC simply because Win10 doesn't like it.

Greetings Kelevra and welcome to the forum!

You were brave to use Windows ME and Vista, I skipped those versions.

Welcome aboard the crazy train, kelevra!

It's pretty amazing how broad the hardware support is for GNU+Linux, and one of the good aspects of that is should you want to buy a newer computer than what you presently own, while yes it's true you will want to do due diligence, you're by no means straight-jacketed in terms of options.

That said, it tends to be the case distros such as Linux Mint (LM) let you reclaim hardware you might otherwise feel "has to be" discarded.
Please remember to mark your fixed problem [SOLVED].

Running Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.3.
