hi linux users

Post by jschoonh »

I am Jacob, live mainly in Turkey but am Dutch. Retired and very old for most off you.
My profession was in IT, ICT, building networks, repaired and build hardware and some software.
PC’s are still a hobby and after Window 7 expired support, I was sick and tired with MS.
Cince February all our computers do run linux mint. I faced no problems but I did cheat a bit.
I still run “sketchup” and “dreamweaver” two programs for Windows under Wine. I couldn't find any replacement for those which I liked.

The last and very old laptop who runs as a weather hub, is still running on XP.
In the future, I like to replace this laptop for a “HP thin client” with a minimal linux distro on it.
But a lot of work to be done. A lot of historical data needs to be converted and the software I do use now, works only under Windows. I'm busy with “weewx” a open source weather program, written in Python.
There’s one challenge I haven't a solution for. I build a pyranometer based on a usb analoog digital converter. This usb converter in Windows has a driver that creates a virtual serial port. A little program I wrote opens the serial port and read the 8 analog inputs.
In linux, the hardware is visible under its vendor id and product id but no driver available. Where on this forum can I ask a more detailed question like maybe IIO in python or a other solution to read this hardware.

My website is mainly dutch but the weather part is in English to https://schooot.nl/weereng.php

Incidentally my wife is a BMS ayurvedic doctor. I am not a dr.Her name is Wasawadatta, quite a mouthful, one of the characters in Kalidasa's Sanskrit drama.

there has been a moment in my life where ayurvedic was important for me. So thankful then, that this knowledge did existed.
I had to look up Kālidāsa. Wow, is the first word that comes to mind. Does Wasawadatta really speak Sanskrit?

As I live in Florida, I'm used to pretty high humidity. There's a reason we have central air conditioning here: we'd all die otherwise!

Definitely a cool looking weather station web site. I can't wait to see what you'll be able to do once you fully get into the swing of Linux Mint as your web development production environment.

Best wishes!
Please remember to mark your fixed problem [SOLVED].

Wasawadatta knows a bit of Sanskrit. My father was a PhD in Sanskrit .Ayurved is an ancient medicinal science from India.

it was a long ride. Via unix / windows, later novell / vmware / windows. And then Novell switched to suse. So still a logical step :D :)
