Hello and Great Work on Mint!!

Post by slarabee »

Hello all,

I've been a Systems Engineer (Enterprise Networks) for nearly 30 years. 20 odd years ago installing Red Hat from a disk for the very first time was a daunting experience (for me). My how times have changed.

Even as recent as last year though, I was becoming increasingly frustrated with the great many distros being released, that had/have so many essential programs broken, or just poorly executed, right out of the box. When I think of the hours spent installing, re-installing and reconfiguring distros to get them to behave, man I want that time back so I can spend it fishing lol

That is how I found my way to Mint.

After sometime tweaking and looking for what works for me, I finally settled in on Xfce. I am very happy with it, and now I run it almost exclusively. I was using Windows 10 with Xfce in a VMWare Workstation VM, but recently Win 10 whacked the partition table on one of my encrypted disks, and that was that, no more Win 10 as main OS.

So now I run Mint Xfce with Workstation Player for my Windows VM's and I am a much calmer guy now :-)

The layout of the desktop is familiar enough, while still maintaining the power of Linux.

Any rate, thank you to all the programmers that contribute to the Mint Disto. I appreciate you all very much.

Sean
