Another Brit Signing Up

Post by agaskew »

Hello to you all :)

Boring old person here - worked in IT for well over 30 years, started on mainframes with punch cards, blah blah etc.

On home desktops and laptops I had a 6 year dalliance with OS X until I couldn't stand the walled garden and the nonsense any more. Then a few years with the much improved Windows 10 (there, I said it :P ) but recently thought I'd give Linux another try on the desktop. Ubuntu was a non starter, as it couldn't even handle dual monitors without crashing back to the login prompt all the time.

And so to Mint which has honestly amazed me with how well everything works with almost no effort. I'm quite happy with terminal, scripts, sed, awk etc but its hardly needed now. The only hiccup I had was hacking about with the Citrix HDX Media Extension install script to make it run, as I connect to work via Citrix all day long, but even Citrix Workspace runs better on Mint. Now got my eye on popping Mint on a silent NUC - happy days!

Welcome from a Brit who cut his mainframe teeth on a Burroughs B6930. Ah, those were the days... :)

Welcome to the forum agaskew!

I'm not a Brit but I spent the first 5 years of my working life using Pr1me mini's. Not quite punch card era but not long afterwards.
