Hi everyone! Bye bye MS, hello GNU/Linux!

Post by PolaroidUseroid »

Hello everyone! My name is Paul, I'm 24 and from Ireland. Glad to be a new member of this gigantic Linux Mint community.
I used to be on Windows since I was born lol. And as I became more and more interested in the free software community, I wanted to try Linux distros. So here I am, after dozens of install of distros which I tested on Live USB. Obviously I need to keep Windows 10 apart on dual boot for the moment, because I didn't manage to find an equivalent (yet !!!) for the soft I use on a daily basis. But I hope to be able to do completely without Windows very soon.

Love you guys, and have a great day.
See you soon!!!

Hi PolaroidUseroid ,

Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and its excellent forum.

If you tell us which applications you are still using in MS Windows, then perhaps we can suggest Linux alternatives.
Phd21: Mint 20 and 19.2 Cinnamon & xKDE (Mint Xfce + Kubuntu KDE) & KDE Neon 64-bit (new based on Ubuntu 20.04) Awesome OS's, Dell Inspiron I5 7000 (7573) 2 in 1 touch screen, Dell OptiPlex 780 Core2Duo E8400 3GHz,4gb Ram, Intel 4 Graphics.

Welcome to the forum!

If you need to search for something here, and you can't find it with the search box in the upper right corner, try your favorite browser with your search words along with site:linuxmint.com or site:forums.linuxmint.com. Sometimes it helps.

For example, if you want to look for answers about "custom notifications" you could enter...

Code: Select all

custom notifications site:linuxmint.com
A forum member named Pjotr has created some very excellent pages with many answers...

Before posting for help, please be sure to read the forum rules about asking for help. Many good tips there!

So tempted to reply with something like "You'll be sorry.."
But the only thing you might be sorry about is probably the amount of time the 'fun' aspect of using Linux, and feeling at home in the community - especially the Mint community - absorbs.

There always seems to be something interesting happening, and people to share it with.
Have fun and Welcome to a fun place.
Current main OS: MInt 19.3 Xfce on Lenovo m93p Tiny, i5-4590T (i915 graphics), 8GB RAM, 1TB Samsung SSD.

Welcome Polaroid,

Linux Mint might be even closer to home than you think, Westmeath to be precise! And yep, there's at least one Corkonian here as well :)

Have fun :)
