Mint as daily driver: round 2

Usually am windows user but i have great simphaty for linux and Mint distro.

After trying Ubuntu and some other distros i used linux mint as daily driver some years ago. I was just unable to get used to it but this time i will try second round.

Some background about me: web developer (using php, mysql, css, html). Like to game sometimes.

What i love about Linux Mint:

-No unexpected bloatware after updates and installs.
-No forced updates. Love the moment when i see mint updates at "update manager" when i have time for updates!
-Free OS
-Customisation. I was surprised about how can i customise my desktop (Alt+tab options, panel options, dark theme...). I can even edit theme with .css wow.
-Privacy. No figerprints/information is sent to some servers at microsoft (am wrong?)
-Also using mint on my secondary old loptop and it works really snappy
-Already found alternative software to what im used to (color picker applet, notepadqq) and chrome works as expected.
-No problem acsessing windows harddrive.

Mixed experience:

-I had some problem after installing on SSD for wich solution i found here viewtopic.php?t=301215 so im happy about good support but i saw one user who stopped using mint for this particular reason.
-Still can't find good music player. Rhytmbox looses music after starting it again. Exploration still in progress :)
-No detailed explanation whats the difference between "Cinnamon", "Mate" and "Xfce" flavors. In my opinion new users (who does not bother to reseach) can be confused.

What i dislike about Linux mint:

-Default ubuntu font (will change it later, maybe i just got used to windows fonts).
-I know i can use Wine (i want pure experience), but missed some programs as winscp (i don't like Filezilla), notepad++ (however found notepadqq wich looks good atm).
-Somehow windows still feels a little more polished (sometimes mint can't connect to internet after boot, youtube skips frames...) Wireless signal jumps unexpectedly but works. However i see mint very critically and closely atm.

I will do my best to used mint as my daily driver as it's so interesting!

as of music player, well everyone has his/her own choice, i like clementine but at times it feels like a bit overkill so by defaul i use mpv
as of difference between cinnmon mate and xfce, i can say cinnamon is a new look for your desktop, mate is like what linux was some time ago, and xfce looks like a little bit like windows7 so basically they just differ in how your desktop looks & how much you can change the default look, they all will support all apps, but still as you know more good looking things need more ram and cpu therefore resource usage in these cinnamon, mate and xfce varies too(cinnamon is heaviest but not as heavy as windows10, xfce is lightest mate is in middle)
as of wine i will say i have used notepad++ on wine and it is a pure experience just set it up once make a shortcut and it will work like a regular app, so dont worry notepad++ is pure on wine

yeah, i would agree default look of windows does look more polish but mint was not made for looks, it was made for productivity, and it does that well you see in most case better looks mean more resource usage and as a linux is for every computer developers can not make is so heavy that it wont work on low resource computers,
but dont worry there are plenty of tutorials online and on youtube and you can make your os look identical from anything like mac to windows its supereasy

but if you want a good looking polished distro, i would say try out ubuntu kylin or deepin both look modern and cute over windows i bet these too by default look better than windows but like windows they wont allow you to customize anyomore

so try anything with kde for looks kde is a little bit hard but its looks are amazing and its very light

Your reply is not too much! Very appreciated.

For music player im using "Audicious" because it's more simple than default "Rhytmbox", and it remembers my playlists.

Sadly i can't use mint as main system because few issues:

-FTP file transfers to my remote server are like 20 times slower in mint than windows (on filezilla and winSCP on wine).
-I need to physically replug my wifi dongle every startup to get wifi running

On the other hand, most people will do fine with any of these. There's a fine line between explaining too little and explaining too much (so people stop reading).

It's ugly as sin, it looks dated and Windowsy to me, but it can be skinned.

I'm using "Cinamon" on my main computer and "Mate" on old laptop i think that fits. Tried CrossFTP looks more "calm" experience than filezilla. Thanks.
