Let me take my first opportunity to thank everyone who makes Linux Mint a success. Everyone from the Source down to the end-users, developers to forum-members. This is all a remarkable infrastructure!
Here's my short story. I have traditionally kept Windows on my machines and only used various distros within Virtualbox. I found LM around the time Covid restrictions moved everyone indoors for an extended amount of time. I loved its simplicity from the get. It's not a radical departure from the more familiar Windows. LM is designed for fast installation with minimum problems, and gets out of the end-users way so real work can be accomplished.
My current machine came with Windows 8.1. With its EoL creeping, I had to make a decision to install a more secure OS. I disagree with provisions in the Win10 ToS (pretty much all of it actually). It's a cute OS, I'll give M$ that much. But Win10 demands so much attention, unto itself and its sponsors. I can't work like that. Heck, I had problems keeping uninstalled components uninstalled!
So LM was installed on bare metal and is now my primary home OS! Everything worked, even detection of my silly Canon printer. I expected at least a week of Terminal command crunching and a plethora of web searches. Nope! I accomplished pretty much everything via the built-in Software Man and a few open-source Linux forums, especially this one.
Thank you, LM Forums, for providing this platform for your users!
