Hello to Linux Mint community

Post by JayFri »

Each one of us was brought here for a reason. And so am I. I am using LM Cinnamon edition for the past few days now. I have no experience with Linux. I have to say UI seems welcoming for a newcomers. Before installing Linux I was running Windows10. Well technically I am still running Windows10 on separate system.
Even though I am using almost a decade old laptop I am very impressed with Linux Mint. The only downside - lack of powerful software like Adobe Suite. There are some exceptions. Blender,Krita,Gimp those are wonderful programs. I heard that there are similar software to After Effects and Animate CC but I just didn't enjoy them as much as Adobe ones. It's nice that there is a community building a free product. There is no need to google cracked versions. So I do understand why people like open-source. It's just not quite there yet for me at least.
I was surprised that Nvidia has released a driver update for Linux just few days ago. Windows had stopped making updates three years ago. The only problem - I have no clue how to install those drivers. I watched some youtube tutorials but I couldn't install them.

Welcome! I came to Linux from Windows XP.

I would indeed be nice if Adobe (and others) made Linux versions of their products, as that would certainly provide for more options.

Linux is indeed different than Windows, and not a meant to be a drop-in replacement for it, despite what misinformed individuals may say.

If you're sure that an additional Nvidia driver is needed, post a new topic in the Newbie Questions category.
