A big fan of Linux Mint

Post by wwwaters »

Hi..
Just discovering how much of a newbie I am by trying to post to "Introduce yourself" (not very user friendly)...
Just to wish that you keep up the good work. I have used Linux Mint before but it has been years ago and for some reason did not continue with it until now...
It is really nice, I am not inclined to use the command line interface and had a little difficulty installing some of my favorite stuff: Opera and Brave browsers...

It would be nice if the installation process for software that does for some reason show up on your installers (excuse my lack of a proper technical vocabulary) were made less difficult (meaning using the command line)...

I am an old guy, probably not a very typical user of Linux but I like getting away from Microsoft and Windows where possible, and you can be pretty sure that I like Linux Mint since I am able to use the skills developed using Windows 10 and the user interface has similarities...

I am also pretty sure that there are many others who would be more interested in Linux if it was less of a leap in technical skills to use it... Windows 10 is not all that user friendly or robust, it actually has a lot of bugs that Microsoft does not take an interest in solving.... Soooo... You have a a lot of folks that would be happy to change given a more gentle transition...

Regards,

Bill

I'm an old guy for Linux myself, and Linux Mint was my initial foray into the Linux world. While I have tried many others, I feel most at home with Linux Mint.

Don't think yourself alienated because you're 'old'; instead, feel empowered. You've broken free of the technocrats shackles and have done something others your age wouldn't even attempt!

I would just encourage you to use LM and learn more about it. Frequenting the forums here is an excellent start.

Hi wxboss...

Thanks for the encouragement, but I'm a pretty radical old man in any case...

I really like the quote that appears at the end of your message, how did you do that? I might like to do such a thing myself...

I'm more interested in human behavior and philosophy than ideology or politics, of course you might think that those things are pretty much the same thing, but us humans are scary and entertaining at the same time, whatever we choose to do with our lives, it is just that the details of why, are more interesting to me...

Welcome to the forum.

My partner has never used the command line and I seldom do.
I am an old guy, probably not a very typical user of Linux
I suspect the majority on this forum are as old as you or older. Of the twenty plus installations I've done in the past year or so, just about all would have been for older than you users.
I am also pretty sure that there are many others who would be more interested in Linux if it was less of a leap in technical skills
My partner, using Windows 10 one day, Linux Mint the next and carrying on using it for the past year, using her computer in the same way as she always has - emails, web searching, documents, commercial accounting spreadsheets, instructional music via YouTubes and downloads. No change of system problems at all.
Windows 10 is not all that user friendly or robust,
Robust!!!! It destroyed itself which is why she is using Mint.
it actually has a lot of bugs that Microsoft does not take an interest in solving
Especially when they put out viruses they call Updates which then destroy everything.

Me? I've been using Mint for more than a decade.

Hmmmmm...

Not too sure there was anything to "solve", just sharing some thoughts about "Mint Linux"
