Trying to give a good grade to an Xfburn

Post by melvinbrand »

I tried to give a four-stars to Xfburn in the Software Manager, but when I clicked on "click here to add your own review," it sent me to this page:

https://community.linuxmint.com/software/view/xfburn

Then it said sign-in. When I tried that, I could because it said I needed a special code. When I went to go look for that, it referred me to the Forums and then to Introduce Yourself where it said I should ask for the code here. But it did not indicate who would send the code or which words I should use to ask.

This is a lot to go through to try to give the community a compliment. I've been a computer professional before, so if just getting to grade a software with four starts is this hard, that's a bit disconcerting.

I thought it directs to do that via IRC, not the Forums.

Edit: From the Community sign up page ...

"Connect to the chatroom (From within Linux Mint, launch Menu->Welcome Screen and click on Chat Room), introduce yourself and ask for a registration code."

I'd only used the "Software Manager" briefly once or twice (**), and just now tried to do that exact function and ended up with ... a website open in a text editor then a window popped up saying "A new version is available" without saying a new version of what.

** For me the Mint python scripts are always rather flaky and don't inspire confidence, perhaps because I run under a window manager rather than a real "desktop environment". Edit: also note that it says "No reviews available"; I restarted it and it seems as though people left 65 reviews in those few minutes. Edit2 (2nd pic) I didn't have xfburn installed, so I hit the Install button, it says Installing but nothing is installed and no error messages; the Install button returns. This is probably because pkexec doesn't work, combined with poor programming.

Edit2: here are the informative messages when failing to install xfburn via mintinstall in a terminal:

Code: Select all

Installer: System pkgcache is most recent, using it.
MintInstall: Deleting old screenshots
MintInstall: No new reviews
Installer: Calculating changes required for APT package: xfburn
For install: ['xfburn', 'libisofs6', 'libburn4', 'libjte2']
For removal: []
For upgrade: []
Starting task for package apt:xfburn, type 'install'
Done with task (success) apt:xfburn
Installer: Calculating changes required for APT package: xfburn
...repeats...
This worked with no problems:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install xfburn
