I think it's time I said a quick Hello. I've been using Linux for a number of years as a user, not an OS developer. My first install was Slackware (kernel 0.98) but I didn't start using Linux for some time after that. I used OpenSuse, then Mandrake, then switched to Ubuntu (Hoary Hedgehog). I changed to Xubuntu, coincidentally 6 months before Ubuntu switched to Unity, just not really happy with Gnome. It was the snaps that finally pushed me to try something else - apps failing to access parts of the filesystem and polluting the output of df, lsblk etc.
I was pleasantly surprised with Mint Cinnamon, and I think I'll stick with Mint. I don't like that every theme has drab flat monochrome controls, but apart from that Cinnamon seems to hit the right balance between being helpful and getting in the way. Well done, Mint devs.

Hello and welcome!
There are a lot of themes that aren't flat and monochrome. And even some with non-flat or non-monochrome controls. Check https://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/themes
