I bought an ancient Dell Latitude C610 laptop with 20gig HDD and 512 meg of ram for 25 quid off gumtree - it was loaded with XP Pro SP3 and frankly ran like a snail
As I only need it for the occasional email and a bit of firefox, I thought I´d try Linux and installed a few distros all with varying fails or just hardware incompatibility
Then I discovered ¨Katya¨ and it installed a dream! It picked up my Ethernet and Belkin wireless dongle immediately (the dongle uses a weird driver which Windows always asks for the CD!)
Installed all the Mint automatic updates and I've had Mint running beautifully for a few days now with no problems and I've gotten rid of XP permanently
Mint is a great distro and I highly recommend it for old low spec hardware
Well done you guys!
