This is probably answered somewhere, but I've searched the forum and Google and the few posts were not applicable to my case.
I've just installed LMDE (2011 version) on the following partition setup (two hard discs, sda and sdb):
/dev/sda1 ntfs System Reserved (that's where Windows 7 has its rescue files; I can't delete this).
/dev/sdb1 ntfs (windows 7 system)
LMDE was installed on /dev/sda2 (about 30Gb), with swap on sda3/5 (8 Gb)
GRUB was installed on the default /sda
On reboot, I get the message "No bootable device" and then nothing; I have to put the LMDE bootable dvd to get back to a working system.
Should I have specified grub to be installed on sda2 instead of just sda? If yes, can I change this without reinstalling?
Update: re-installing grub on /sda2 doesn't do anything; same error as above.
Thanks for any help!
[SOLVED] For whatever reason, the partition was never marked as bootable, although it had been during install. With the live-dvd in, I used gparted and flagged the partition (in this case /sda2) as "boot" and all was fine after a reboot.
