Interesting Design. Well Made. The only advice I will give is to consider using a Clear-Black overlay gradient for that natural light look.

I presume you are talking about leafs on the Lite wallpaper (or/and maybe text); I purposely made it "effectless" to achieve a trendy flat design, but I'm not a professional (experienced) graphic designer so maybe I'm doing it in a "bad way" :).. I'll probably make some more wallpapers, maybe a 3d version would be cool

no I got the flat look on the leaf....... that I liked, don't change it. I meant on the Background. that way your leaf design is centered in the lighted area and stands out. Alot of effects do double duty, on the Micro you can achieve a 3dish look. on the Macro scale it will give you a lowlight effect. combined with the center-clear white layer you can go for a spotlight effect. while you can use the scripts in gimp as well as add on scripts, sometimes you need to know how to do the base effect. thats because either the script doesn't work, or it just don't look right, or it doesn't scale well. I used that effect on these. as well as others

the first uses the overlay white-clear to spotlight the background
the second uses the overlay clear-black to shadow the background
both allow you to focus the viewers attention to the spot you want them to view. In this case the logo.

oh and I am hardly an expert, Much less a graphic designer. I am a Glorified novice. I've seen designs that are far better then mine, some of them I cannot replicate....Yet.
I gave this advice to RacerBg and its applicable here as well, Look at other artists wallpapers, and duplicate the effect yourself. Deconstruct the effect in your head.

here use this as an example
Image
Main shape layer = dull yellow - second layer = white-clear radial gradient set to grain merge, 3rd layer = select first layer shape, shrink about 25, select third layer, bright yellow-clear linear gradient overlay at 80ish - add layer mask (white) use circle select tool to select area, invert and bucket fill the rest with black and apply mask. Blur each layer (using blur not Gaussian blur). add final YP layer on top. Merge visible layers and there ya go.

all of those effects can be used on the macro as well as the micro to achieve other effects.

Thanks for tips! I think I got your point...

I added a radial gradient black (7% opacity) -> black (0% opacity):

I think it's nicer... The way I look at it is as source of light is behind and lights toward the viewer.

Did I get the point or you have a better idea? Feel free to edit the wallpapers if you want...

Cheers!

it does look better. hmm redesign it , well generally I don't like to step on other Linux artists turf. "suggestions" are fine But actually ripping off an idea of my fellow Linuxers is slightly distasteful. but as you asked I will work a different version up using your other logo as a "Team" design. couldn't hurt.

oh if your wondering Apple and Windows are "In Season year round, and I have an Open license to poach their stuff"

Here you go. Just a Slight Modification of the original. I smoothed the bi-radial gradient and used one of your other logo's so that the example wouldn't clash with the original. smoothed the overall Background. Bi-radial gradients really are not my forte so I had to use every trick in the book to get it looking just right. anyway here it is.

also I removed the words, just because again I didn't want to Clash with your design.

Very nice! Again, thx for tips, they sure will help. I'll try to make another wallpaper to show my progress as soon as I catch some spare time

I updated my post in "Another Linux Mint Logo Concept" topic and added links to SVG files so you can use them in your future work if you wish.

I prefer minimalistic logo design, as simple as possible. Most of the professional designers recommend it :) (e.g. http://www.1stwebdesigner.com/design/10-logo-design-tips/).

oh minimalism is great.... just don't over do it or you are in danger of having the final product look like a billboard or telephone book ad
