@McLovin
I like the second version better. I don't like the sharp line in the background on this one.

I think a Mint theme reform is a great idea for the upcoming Felicia. Clem, on the scale you were thinking originally with the Fedora Solar theme, I think the forum might not be the greatest place to cultivate ideas. The wiki might be a better place to propose concepts, although it will probably be harder to use than the forums.

Just as a general criticism, the majority of the ideas I've seen so far appear to be quite dark. Not to say I don't like dark themes, I'm actually using one at the moment. Maybe we could make a few light themes? It'd be good at least as an option to users who might prefer something lighter.

Now that I've found this thread, I'll be brainstorming some ideas. Hopefully I'll have something to show for it before Felicia gets released! :D

@Sputty:

I like the second one best, with the Coke swirl and flare. A bit less on the flare though, could blind people first thing in the morning :lol: I really like the flare though, it reminds me of the opening titles of Doctor Who in the Tom Baker era :wink:

@McLovin:

I'm with AkaNed, I like the second one, without the border. It looks softer, more subtle, more <.< >.> ...elegant :wink:

@Omns:

I think the waves make it look a bit too busy, with the logo and its reflection. The simpler swirl reminds me of pudding :wink: Mint pudding? :mrgreen:

Some really really beautiful work here, everybody should be proud.

I think I like that one the best. I'd like to see that as the default.

After a few hours of work this morning, I drafted a new idea for a logo.
Image
Certainly not as polished as the existing logo, but maybe it'll inspire better artists...if anyone wants the source file for this, send me a private message.

I plan to work on a good default background for the gnome panel later today.

wow i like the Logo made from dberg918 !!! It is Fresh and mild, very pleasant to watch. I like the Colors there are not so intensive as they are in the original Logo.

but the only think how i see a little problem is, i think a logo from a system must be so that it can be used as an Icon, and for that the Original Mint Logo has the perfect form.
Sorry for my BAD English!!

I've done a little work on the gnome panel, and here's what I've come up with so far:
Image
To see what it looks like on a dark desktop (default Elyssa wallpaper), here's a screenshot:
Image
If you want to see it on your own desktop, just right-click the image below, save it to your computer, and choose it as the background image of your gnome-panel:
Image
It will tile itself across the bar automatically. And for reference, it is 25 pixels high.

Should we choose to put something like this in the default theme for Felicia, we will need to make it resizeable so that people with larger taskbars can still use it.

In relation to Mint KDE I am wanting to change the KDE mint icon from blue to green.
the cogs will still be there on the icon.
I am wanting to change the general KDE blue theme to green like the main one.
KDE4 should be able to use gnome icon themes too since they both conform to the free desktop standard.
we may just have to add some kde icon names to the mint gnome icon themes and hay presto a common icon theme.
but im no expert in icons and themes so over to you guys.

Now where was i going? Oh yes, crazy!

I really liked this one:
http://zwopper.deviantart.com/art/Mint-Dew-99660030 feels calmer than the other ones:)

Are there any lighter ones as well? Black feels kind of heavy for me (and probably many others as well), although it looks realy cool! After all, isn't mint-things usually green/blue and white anyway, probably to symbolise the freshness of mint.

Am to late and kind of having to much going on to make any proposals this time, but would be fun to give it a try for the next release :)

This is the closest I came to what what I had in mind:
http://www.crestock.com/images/540000-5 ... 741-xs.jpg
... or even closer, but kind of not a welcome sight on these kind of pages ... a revertet pictures like this:
http://laptoping.com/wp-content/vista_home_premium.jpg
where the green is white and the kind of white stripes is green.

Fedora really does a great deal when it comes to artwork! Maybe it would be easier if Mint had something to keep their mind on like Ubuntu?

Looking at dberg's icon, I had some free time, so I wanted to see if I could make something a bit more symmetric--not to bash the original of course :-P I'm just a fan of symmetry. Also, I may have mild OCD. In any case, I wanted to keep the same simple design that Mint has used in the past, as well as the kind of two-color sheen that was used in the leaf above. But I wanted to make it somewhat more streamlined...also I like Yin Yangs.

New idea for the gnome-panel, mint leaves!
Image

I'm trying to find a good (and minty) color for a lighter theme, and I think the color here is nice and bright, yet dull enough that it doesn't burn the eyes. This is probably a little too wacky for the default theme, but let's hear what you think. Here's a nice big 100x100px image if you want to try it out. Just resize it (keeping the aspect ratio intact) to the height of your gnome-panel and set it to the background image.

This I like!
Should be darker in my opinion though...
