hi JeremyB!

Completely disabling the basic ones (right of edit box and other unicode types) can be done in user control panel, board preferences, edit display options, set display smilies as images to No (then you'll see the : word : in place of pic.

these ones would require disabling BBCode, I imagine [fa]…[/fa] but those fontawesome ones are pretty low key black&whites

I also found a blocklist (hosts file or resolver blacklist) works fine for knocking out others (like the unicode call)
** https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/emojione/assets (which I realized after seeing xenopeek's mention of the emoji cheat sheet (was wondering why sh*t was in big bold letters there lol, have 87 cdn blocks this thread alone!)

** https://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/images/emoticons/ (see edit to add below)

could probably fine tune that even better using adblocker like uBlock origin, etc.
Hope this helps~

edit to add:
I tried to add one filter rule in uBlock Origin browser extension for https://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/images/ but refreshing wasn't killing off some of them reliably.
so I made 3 rules:
