The official LinuxMint logo subtly redesigned (again!) with a few pixels of difference

Freely, alone, I reworked this logo again... Here is what's new:
  • All versions are perfect squares or perfect circles, without any stretching. To achieve this, the "L" is a little taller, which makes sense since this letter is indeed taller in everyday typography: "Lm".
  • I didn't want the top of the "L" to be too close to the edge of the circle, but I also didn't want the logo to be too small. So, I took another path: an infinite "L"...
  • I am disappointed to sometimes find older versions of the logo still in use. These versions do not have the same spacing everywhere. It's a shame, because this new logo attracts with its good use of negative space. You can see this on my illustration about negative space in my repo. There is an underlying positive influence there...
  • All widths and spacings are equal and are round numbers.
But this is only a personal work on my own repo.

The menu panel icon is better without any circle. It isn't so small this way. This logo doesn't always have to be trapped in a circle!

Personally, I quite like your work :)

It doesn't try to do anything fancy, and focuses on making the logo more refined.

I had a small suggestion: could you try coloured circles with the 'Lm' logo cutout from them, like you did in the top right example?
Basically, replace the second row with a black circle with a transparent 'Lm', a mint green circle with a transparent 'Lm', and a white circle with a transparent 'Lm'.

In my opinion, Linux Mint should probably use one of these--the current logo is very distorted and unrecognisable in the favicon for the forum and other places.

New Logo goes with the Trend clean and simple. I use inkscape too, the screenshot you shared it was just rough drawn or its some different kind of tool that i didnt used that.

Screenshot? I guess you are talking about this preview on my last post. Yes, this is just a low-resolution preview. The real thing is in SVG file format, and it can't be displayed here. You can get the top-quality SVG file formats from https://github.com/SebastJava/linuxmint-logo

These SVG files are created in Inkscape. The preview is just a low-resolution PNG exported from Inkscape (File > Export PNG Image...).

...Or maybe you are talking about this Screenshot showing the underlying work in the OP? That is Inkscape > View > Display Mode > Outline.

Y'know, just because Star Trek changed the uniform design with every series, and even within a series, we don't also have to change LM's logo.

Honestly, I like what's been used right along.

Now, that said, if you go back to Page 2 in this discussion, the last post is actually pretty cool.

However, I really like the way the existing logo — particularly the skeuomorphic one seen in this forum — blends but yet makes distinct the L and the M.

Why do i keep changing the logo again and again ?

You will find some interesting explanations to this here: https://github.com/SebastJava/linuxmint ... and-again-

To sum up, i kept coming up with new logo proposals because i was not satisfied and because my few good ones were rejected. I tried one last one, and it didn't work. I was clearly told the logo should not be changed. So, i will probably stop bothering you with this.

P.S.: Please take note that there are currently more than one official logo. There is the new one on the new website, and there is still this old one being used here on these LM forums. And still, some more. Too many, IMHO. There should be only one logo. But, preferably, a good one.

If I have to pick between the two, I'd pick this one. The other one changes the actual logo itself.

This is written in very small characters on top of the poll, on top of the OP. Sorry for this kind of misleading. I should change the OP title later tonight...

This repository is very "unstable". I was seriously not satisfied with the old logo from 2007, the one still used here on top of every page on this forum ▲. And i am also not totally satisfied with the current new official one. So, i keep exploring alternative new avenues. The shapes keep changing as i come up with new ideas, but on top of that, the color is even more unstable. The color is another issue. I don't care about getting a true mint leaf color. I was more, like, searching for some attractive, culturally defined mint color. And recently, i just switched to a color that should be appreciated by everyone: some kind of warm blue tone.

Now, back to what you were looking for. I guess you want those displayed on this image: download/file.php?id=69813&mode=view These are the high-badge and the simple versions. They are still there, on this repository. But not with this fresh green: #00E000.

You can easily cope with color changes. You can change one file at a time by opening it in Inkscape, or, if you are careful enough, you can do some simple direct edit into the SVG file using a simple text editor such as Xed. But you could prefer using the sed command to change every file in just a split second. For example, you can change all these blues back into this green this way:

Code: Select all

cd ~/Downloads/linuxmint-logo-master # Go to where you downloaded and extracted your zip.
sed -i 's/\#0ca0e8/\#00e000/g' *.svg # That is: sed -i 's/\#OLD-HEX-COLOR/\#NEW-HEX-COLOR/g' *.svg
This will change all the SVG files instantly. Try it !

Else, another way to get what you are looking for is to browse into the repository history. In this case, it is easy since the post you are referring to has a date stamp: Sat May 15, 2021 11:26 pm. So, you could just go back in time to this, this way:
  1. Go to https://github.com/SebastJava/linuxmint ... its/master
  2. Scroll down to the latest commit made on May 15, 2021.
  3. Click on the (<>) button to "Browse the repository at this point in the history".
  4. To download, click on the green Code button, and then click on Download ZIP. This way you get exactly what you were looking for.

To download, click on the green Code button, and then click on Download ZIP.

Else, another way to get what you are looking for is to browse into the repository history.
I used this method to get to this point in history, that is on late May 15, 2021:
https://github.com/SebastJava/linuxmint ... 070fd081a1

Then i clicked on the green Code button to Download ZIP. Then i tried to upload this ZIP right here, to make it perfectly simple to you. But i can't because i get this error message: "File too large." It is only 1.7 MB ?!

Anyway, when you look at the SVG coding, these are not perfect. These old files are heavy, unnecessarily complex. I recommend you take the new ones, and just change the colors. I am doing it here. I delete lots of files just to make sure it fits into a small ZIP. Here it is:
linuxmint-logo-green.zip
(26.59 KiB) Downloaded 49 times
The one you were looking for is this high-badge.svg right ? Anything else ?

Here is the preview of this custom tailored ZIP:

Ah, okay, sorry, i was slow to understand. So, you want this high-badge.svg inside a magnifying glass. In SVG format. Can you try doing it ? If you are having too much trouble, i could do this too. But later. I'm busy working on a personal project that has already been postponed several times. I couldn't wait any longer... I could do this SVG with magnifying glass on Monday or Tuesday, then, maybe.

We could use this:

What do you think ?
