Its just my 4th day with mint, but I'm already in love with it. I liked Gnome because of its simplicity but if the atwork further be improved by enabling transparecy with the option to control it completely it would be too nice. I dont know whether it has been already implemented or not. But if not please take into consideration.
I liked the wedgets in kde. Is it available for Gnome?
Thank you.

Re: transparecy
You can control it with the compiz settings found in gnome-control center.
I use it to set translucency when I drag a window. I also use it to shuffle windows to the front when it gains focus (instead of just coming to the top)
