Is there a list of program versions for LMDE? - Solved

Postby David Brown » Thu Mar 14, 2013 3:19 pm

Is there any way to see what versions of programs LMDE will install? For example, what version of Gimp will be installed? Or LibreOffice?

One way would be to install LMDE and see what I get. I was hoping for a list on a web site somewhere but I haven't been able to find it.

Well, the package manager will show you your installed set of programs, or you can generate a list with the terminal and the utility that actually manages packages on a Debian based system (Debian-->Ubuntu-->Mint)
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?p=236027

As to the idea of a list of the installed packages and I presume system services and library version and so on: what is a Linux distributor to do: create an attractive web site providing their iso files + forums, irc channels and then to also link to a portion that lists everything they include in their distribution set
A series amount of extra work
--especially if the are trying to provide timely releases of the Linux OS (kernel and a select set of applications
  • This is why there is plenty of information on the internet about linux and the available open source applications..

Mostly Debian "testing" repo: http://packages.debian.org/testing/ (alias wheezy now; jessie following the Debian 7 release in a few months)
Additions from the Mint repo: http://packages.linuxmint.com/list.php?release=Debian

You might want to define a custom search in your browser. (examples: gimp, libreoffice)

Thanks mockturtl. Those links were exactly what I was looking for.
