Firefox - freeze, runnung after quit

Postby Bonsaii » Mon Feb 21, 2011 3:02 pm

Hi,

my system is a HP Compaq nx7300 with 32 bit LMDE on testing.

For a few days now (updates?) Firefox is not shutting down properly.
Meaning, when I quit FF (3.6.13), the processes keep running.
I noticed that only, when the fan kept running full speed and systems
monitor showed firefox and firefox-bin still running using up to
100% CPU.

Does anyone else experience that?
Any suggestion for a solution?

Sidenote, Firefox froze the whole system thrice now
completely, only hard off button worked.

Just a quick question if you don't mind: did you installed KDE over GNOME? And that strange FF behavior started after that?

I had the same problem just several days ago. That day, the same problem happened to xxx-config as well. (forgot what it was exactly. It's a configure tool used to configure some aspect of the desktop). But after that day the problem no longer happens. I upgrade the system everyday. My note book is Compaq Presario A400.

Not that this will solve whatever's causing this problem, but the command pkill firefox should shut Firefox down completely when it's freezing up like that, I think.

You could remove the hidden firefox file in your /home/userID location, probably it is under .mozilla and let firefox restart and create a new configuration for you in that /home/userID directory: see if that cures the run-on problems
--if it doesn't, then it is possibly a type of bug and not simply a user configuration mixture..

Thanks, zerozero,

the apt-get command did not work,
no gtk-qt-engine on my machine.

Maybe apt-get autoremove does,
will see.
