Format floppy disk in LMDE

Postby Alexander_K » Fri Apr 25, 2014 6:02 pm

Hi,
I tried to format a floppy disk using the 'Format' command from the context menu in Nemo (in LMDE 201403 64-bit). However, it opens USB stick formatter, which does not format the floppy.
Can anyone suggest how to fix this?

Alexander.

Thanks for the reply.
Actually, I mean that the 'format' from the context menu should do a floppy format and not bring something irrelevant. Is there a way to fix this?

Install Kfloppy

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install kfloppy

PS. for mounting floppy drive you need to run

Code: Select all

udisks --mount /dev/fd0

Floppies are obsolete, have become irrelevant and are no longer catered for. You will have to use the commands outlined in the URL I quoted.

Be aware that installing KDE programs such as kfloppy, brings with it a long list of KDE support libraries.
