HOW TO: Install Boxee on LMDE

Postby bradfrank » Tue Nov 08, 2011 5:38 pm

Using LMDE 201109 with Update Pack 3. There's some flickering when you bring up the menu, but unfortunately I haven't figured out how to resolve that yet. Maybe someone could add their expertise. Anyhow, here's what I did to get it working:

Step 1: install some dependencies, download the Boxee package, and then extract it because some dependencies need to be changed from Ubuntu to Mint/Debian.

Code: Select all

aptitude install libsdl-gfx1.2-4 libtre5 screen xsel libmysqlclient16 libxmlrpc-core-c3
dpkg-deb -x boxee- boxee-lmde
dpkg-deb -e boxee- boxee-lmde/DEBIAN

Step 2: edit the contents of the package to fix the dependencies. In my case I used Vim since it's so simple.

Code: Select all

vim boxee-lmde/DEBIAN/control

Step 3: rebuild the deb file for installation and install.

Code: Select all

dpkg-deb -b boxee-lmde boxee-lmde.deb
dpkg -i boxee-lmde.deb

Hope this helps someone else :)
