Cinnamon broken after system update

Postby u6f6o » Thu Sep 20, 2012 1:03 pm

Hi,

I recently updated my whole systems and updated ~500 packages. Somehow, Cinnamon seems to be broken since then. MATE nevertheless works as before. As you can see from the screenshot attached, I cannot even use the terminal from within cinnamon since it's simply not accessible.

Any hint to get cinnamon working again is appreciated.,

Thanks in advance,
u6f6o

500 pkgs seems a far too small UP size;
1- what is the output of

Code: Select all

apt update && apt dist-upgrade

2- the ugly look is a problem similar to this for sure

Is there any Cinnamon specific log file I could have a look on?

Hi,

Thanks for your answeres, the last one did the trick. Why was it necessary to install this package seperately and it did not come in with the update? Only issues now is, that all my terminal coloring is gone but I think I can manage.

Many thanks for your help!

Best,

lmde supports now 3 DE's and it's impossible to guess which one you are using and which one is relevant to install in your system; that's why as killer is saying the update-pack info has that information.

I've chosen Linux Mint because I wanted to reduce the time I have to spent to maintain my OS in comparission to Gentoo which I used before. When I first read about Linux Mint it was said that it's easy to use and almost everything works out of the box. Until now this was perfectly true for me and I hope you can understand that I don't want to increase time for maintenance again :-)

Thanks for your great help!
