Mesa 7.11 from source won't install

Postby cowfodder » Fri Sep 02, 2011 1:29 am

Ok, I'm at a loss here. I've been trying to install the Mesa 7.11 drivers from source on my Mint DE install and they just don't seem to want to install. I have all build deps, and they compile fine, but after a reboot glxinfo tells me I'm still on 7.10.3. I'm trying to install them with the linux-dri-x86 option to get S3TC working so I can play Eve via wine. I have libtxc_dxtn-1.0.1 installed from source already. The proprietary ATI drivers cause a system freeze on login, and CCP recommends the OS drivers with S3TC enabled. If anyone can give me a little nudge in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

System is a core i5-2500k with a MSI R5770 Hawk Radeon and 4 gigs of ram.

Thanks in advance!

Did you remove mesa from repos? Where did you install compiled mesa? And, why didn't you backport mesa 7.11 from Sid , it would be much simpler, cleaner easier.

Wow, so now I feel like an idiot. I hadn't even thought of backporting them in from sid, but it worked. Needed to edit my xorg to force gallium, but I can now play Eve just fine. Thanks sumski!
