Hi all
was not sure were to post this, please move if needed
running lmde 64bit mate desktop update pack4, amd athlon quad core 2800mhz cpu, 8gb ddr3 ram, nvidia GTS-450 graphics card
have installed the nvidia 295.20 driver using the following commands:
#sudo apt-get install nvidia-kernel-dkms nvidia-glx build-essential nvidia-settings nvidia-xconfig
then
# sudo nvidia-xconfig
the video playback is 1st class (including flash) but I am still suffering screen tearing on the desktop, opening and closing the update manager for example. Anybody have any ideas?
cheers

Re: graphics issues
Have you enabled desktop effects at all.
It's disabled by default I think
What I mean is, if you have turned it on, try taking it off again

thanks caf4926
sorry, my bad, I forgot to mention that it makes no difference if the gnome compositing is enabled or disabled.
(am going to try cinnamon to see if that is the same)

edited to add: its just the same in cinnamon, it seems to happen when the screen is darkening/lightening (when opening or closing a root login interface)
