[SOLVED] How to install ATI driver from USB in LMDE Recovery

Postby OmegaD » Sun Mar 09, 2014 3:19 pm

I need to install an ATI driver from my USB stick in LMDE Recovery Mode. (I'll spare you the back story.)

How do I do that, exactly? Do I need to "mount" the USB stick? If so, how? How do I identify it? How do I navigate to it? How do I run it?

Details:
The driver on my USB stick is amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-legacy-linux-x86.x86_64.run
The PC has LMDE Xfce 3.10-2-amd64 on it
Graphics Card: SAPPHIRE 100253HDMI Radeon HD 4650 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

I assume you entered recovery mode with the root password. Attach the USB-stick and run (you might already see this as you attach it):

Code: Select all

dmesg | tail

It should show something like: '[ 1381.321467] sd 6:0:0:0: [sdc] Attached SCSI removable disk'
Where '[sdc]' is your disc, note the 'c' might be different, a 'b' for example. To make sure it's the right one (check size) run:

Code: Select all

fdisk -l /dev/sdc

I assume you just have 1 partition on it, or that the file you want to run is on your first partition. Run the following commands (again sdc1 might be different for you):

Code: Select all

mkdir /mnt/my-stick; mount -o exec /dev/sdc1 /mnt/my-stick
cd /mnt/my-stick; chmod u+x amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-legacy-linux-x86.x86_64.run
./amd-driver-installer-catalyst-13.1-legacy-linux-x86.x86_64.run

If all is ok, to cleanup run:

Code: Select all

cd; umount /mnt/my-stick; rmdir /mnt/my-stick

If anything goes wrong, please post the output here.

Thanks Oxihjen that was exactly what I was looking for.

Killer De Bug... I have no idea what that is, what it would do, or how to use it.
