Plex Media Server

Postby CptCrunch » Wed Mar 26, 2014 7:41 pm

I am having problems getting Plex Media Manager to work.

1) First I installed the deb package from Plex's Website and installed via dpkg - installed fine, could not load the server page.

2) Did some investigating and came up with a possible answer to my problem and followed the advice from Plex https://forums.plex.tv/index.php/topic/51427-plex-media-server-for-debian/?p=325661

It appears as if it is running, but yet when I try to access it via Opera (http://localhost:32400/manage) I get a "Could Not Connect to Remote Server".

What is going on?

Update:

Purged, Removed, and Reinstalled. I no longer have the duplicate entries when I do an apt-get update since I removed all sources from my source list. And I have been able to get plex to work if I perform the following command ...

Code: Select all

jholderman@jmh-server ~ $ sudo su -c /usr/sbin/start_pms plex
6 3000 /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support
8192

Not really how I want to run plex, does that help when it comes to why plex is acting this way?

Re: Plex Media Server

Postby CptCrunch » Thu Mar 27, 2014 8:40 pm

So I was able to install Plex and have it work without a hitch, I reinstalled LMDE and followed the instructions outlined above. I think I might have mixed a few sources and it caused some headaches but I am not sure.

So now everything works except that I think I have a group permission problem. The media poster content does not save and I think its because the GID is not the same as the GID for the Media LVM does that make sense?

1) I ran a

Code: Select all

sudo chown -R jholderman /mnt/Media
(My current User)
2) I ran

Code: Select all

cat /etc/passwd
and I get the following

So does that mean GID 65534 belongs to nobody, which is the same GID for the user plex. Can you Give a Folder two GID's? Can you nest GID's? What do I do?
