Can't Rotate Display Orientation

Post by ArchiMark » Tue Jun 11, 2019 7:50 pm

Hope someone can please advise....

Just tried running LM 19.1 MATE off of USB flash drive on my little One Netbook One Mix Yoga 2 7" display laptop.

Due to display company uses (guessing meant for a tablet), it boots up in portrait orientation instead of landscape orientation.

I was able to open the Display settings, but the rotation selection drop-down won't open and show other orientations, so, stuck on Normal.

I tried doing 'xrandr -o right' in Terminal, but get error messages:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major Opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)
Minor Opcode of failed request: 2 (RRSetScreenConfig)
Serial number of failed request: 14
Current Serial Number in Output Stream: 14
For what it's worth, I tried Ubuntu MATE and it does allow me to rotate screen and it sticks (ie, after restarting, logging in, it boots to desktop in landscape orientation).

Would really like to use Linux Mint if possible versus using other distros.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mark

[ADDITIONAL INFO]

Forgot to mention above, that when I had the Display settings window open, it says 'Unknown' on the pinkish rectangle that represents the monitor.

Also, I have a small pinkish rectangle now in the upper left corner of the desktop that says 'Unknown' and 'default' underneath. Don't remember having this rectangle on desktop in other LM setups on other computers.

Found this on reddit....similar issue, but with Ubuntu....thought it might be helpful?

https://www.reddit.com/r/GPDPocket/comm ... in_ubuntu/
In my Ubuntu 18.10 installation I don't have the rotation setting in the display section (don't know if it is a common problem)

To fix the screen rotation:

check that the package iio-sensor-proxy is installed

Create a file /etc/udev/hwdb.d/61-sensor-local.hwdb with this content

sensor:modalias:acpi:BOSC0200*:dmi*

ACCEL_MOUNT_MATRIX=0, 1, 0; 1, 0, 0; 0, 0, 1

Run the command

sudo systemd-hwdb update

Reboot

Now the screen should rotate correctly based on device position

Sorry, posted in MATE section first.

Then occurred to me that perhaps the hardware section was more appropriate, as I don't think it's really a MATE specific issue.

Hence, the other post.

Found this webpage where someone successfully got display rotated, but did it in ArchLinux:

https://www.splitbrain.org/blog/2019-01 ... akeup_hack

Maybe there's some info there that would be useful to apply in some manner to situation with LM 19.1?

Figured out what was wrong.....

I must have not checked the box for install propriety drivers or 3rd party stuff during install.

I did

Code: Select all

sudo apt install ubuntu-restricted-*
after install, rebooted, and Voila!

I was able to rotate display in Display settings!
