Where is MATE panels config file?

Greetings:

I wish to find and copy-backup my MATE panels configuration files before I experiment with these suggestions: http://forums.mate-desktop.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=424 to replace MATE panels with XFCE ones which can render totally invisible and don't have to be locked down like MATE's panel panes must be. Any info where I can find these files would be most appreciated.

in usr/share/mate panels there some configurations files I'm not sure if that's all need to reinstall the mate panel if things go wrong though. I would experiment within virtual box before attempting it on your main system.

mate's panel settings are hidden in your home folder, and are specific to mate-panel.
If you install another panel, it will use it's own settings. If you change your mind and go back to mate-panel, then everything should be the same as it was before.

If you want to back up the files there are here: /home/your_username/.mateconf/apps/panel/

I got something in my panel that is too thin to delete
go figure...

there is no '/home/your_username/.mateconf/apps/panel/' in linux mint mate 18.2
THEY changed things on us again

looks like I am going to have to rebuild the panel again...

Well, this thread is 5½ years old after all.
